Today was a very big day. Baby plants were put in the ground!! Now, you may be saying the Delaware garden zone is just barely out of the threat of frost….you would be right. I will have to keep my eye on potential threats for a few weeks. But my beans and peas were huge and decisions had to be made. I made a judgement call and I hope it doesn’t come to bite me later on.
Here are some of the happenings in the garden today:
They were ready….even if the garden wasn’t. I filled my raised beds with garden soil.Filled up my pots, too. I was experimenting with ways to help the vines grow up to the strong trellis up top….I decided tying some twine to rocks and burying the end under the dirt….that turned out to be the best way for me to create a secure line for the vines to grow on.Tucking the stones under the dirt was not only secure, it also looked neat and tidy. King Tut purple hull peas IN!! Now it’s time to get these cold weather loving seeds in the ground….remember, don’t plant 40 all at once. I am going to be sowing a few a week in between each other to ensure a steady supply of veggies. I made a tiny furrow (dip) along the top of this mound for the seeds to go in. After sowing the seeds in, I rough up the top of the furrow to gently put the seeds underneath the dirt, then I water them in thoroughly. There is a whole row, watered in and ready to grow. Fingers crossed, since I prefer to start seeds indoors, but this year I am growing more than ever so I couldn’t fit any more on my kitchen table.
So there it is, my Sunday project. I just finished giving everything another thorough watering for the evening. Things will be happening fast from here on out since we now have baby plants we are still watering yet also tending to the garden outside. I hope you guys are enjoying getting your gardens started and are coming along for the ride. Take care and happy growing 💜🌱💜
